Donald’s Trumps - round 3.

I’ve just arranged another show with Viz creators Simon and Chris Donald.

We’ve put on a few of Simon Donald’s shows since he turned stand up comedian… the first of which I’d seen him do in Edinburgh in whenever 0 whenever - when having had a few beers I stage-bombed the great man at the end of the show. What happened was; Simon’s brilliant one man character show ended - and he took the applause and standing ovations and then disappeared stage right, thinking that I had to talk to him about coming to the Waiting Room - and imagining him disappearing into the bowels of the little theatre’s backstage green rooms and artist speakeasies etc. I jumped up onto the stage to see where the corridors might lead - only there weren’t any corridors and Simon was still standing on stage behind a 60cm sheet of cardboard, which constituted ‘the wings’ - imagine his shock and panic… anyway he was alright about it - and we brought the show to Eaglescliffe.

Anyhoo… Viz was king when my generation were ripe for it back in the 80’s (as were Top Trumps 10 years before that) - and Donald Trumps - is 90 minutes of fond banter and memories between the Viz founder Donald brothers Chris and Simon. Being the third show at The Waiting Room, with the previous games tied at one apiece - this is the Buster Gonad/Billy Big Balls tie-breaker. I could date the year of our first Simon Donald show from our prices I suppose, when he signed a menu at the time. Our starters haven’t gone up much.
