An Award-winning family Vegetarian Restaurant since 1985

The Waiting Room is a neighbourhood family restaurant serving homely vegetarian cuisine. The restaurant occupies an old terrace house with a cosy high-ceilinged front room and a large conservatory party room to the rear. We have recently added a craft ale, organic wine and cocktail bar in the old chemist shop next door, and as of 2022 - we have opened an organic bakery and wholefood shop to the other side.

 
 

  • We create beautiful vegetarian and vegan dishes using all natural fresh vegetables and wholefoods. We’re known for producing generous, sumptuous dishes using slow cooking methods and plates with a rustic elegance.

  • We have attracted numerous awards and commendations. We are a previous winner of the Vegetarian Society’s ‘Best Restaurant in The UK’ award - with incredible comments by their panel of judges. We have featured in The Observer’s Readers Food Awards on at least 5 occasions - and its top 40 of all places to eat in the UK. In 2020 we were listed in the Times’ top 5 places to eat veggie food in the UK, and named as runner up Best Vegetarian Restaurant in the Food Awards England.

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.

  • The Waiting Room has put on over 600 gigs and art events over the past 20 years, including performers such as Peggy Seeger, Stewart Lee and Jeffrey Lewis (Please see ‘Events’ for a free playlist of past performers!) We have also undertaken quite a lot of other art and community projects. Throughout 2022 we are going to put a book together that will talk about some of those projects. We’ll paste up snippets of this project in progress in our Scrapbook section of this site.

The Waiting Room Vegetarian Restaurant serves great food with rustic simplicity, and with loving generosity. We have created hundreds of recipes over 30 years, whilst changing our menu with each season.
